Connected to the mainland by a pier in 60's, Güvercinada has also been home to a castle built by famous Turkish Mariner Barbaros Hayrettin in 16th century. During Ottoman Era this castle has served as a forward base against attacks from other islands. You can take unique photographs of your ship from the island. The entrance to the castle is totaly free. You will see some peacocks after you climb the stairs, relax under the olive trees and watchover the town.
